I am a male, and having been caught and bitten in certain areas, I am fully aware as to how sensitive my “naugty bits” are. While reading one of my favorite gadget sites, Gizmodo and found a post that at first made me cringe. It highlighted an anti-rape device invented by a medical technician in South Africa who was inspired to create the device after she talked with a rape victim who wished that she had teeth in her vagina. They point to the original article which displays a photo of the inventor holding the device.
It appears to be very much like a condom with barbs. Upon penetration the device loges itself into the penis of the offending rapist. From the article: “The device, concealed inside a woman’s body, hooks onto a rapist during penetration and must be surgically removed…Ms Ehlers [the inventor] said the rape trap would be so painful for a rapist that it would disable him immediately, enabling his victim to escape; but would cause no long-term physical damage and could not injure the woman.”
I must say that I find myself being in favor of this device being available. It’s apparently cause quite a fuss in South Africa with some claiming that it is “medieval” and anti-male. The rape rate in South Africa is cited as being 119 for every 100,000 women, very, very high. Rape is a violent crime and I think women need all the tools they can get their hands on to prevent being attached. They will still be attacked, but at least not they can feel has if they have gotten back at the attacker, just seems to me that there would be a better recovery rate. However, should this device become popular I will remember to check less my companion forget her protection in a moment of passion. Also I wonder if anyone has considered a rectal suppository version.
