Shorn

Filed under: Normal boring stuff — Tyler @ 9:00 pm

Yes I finally did it. It had it’s time and I have my reasons. Stopped keeping score a long time ago anyway. Wither now on the salon floor.

Fahrenheit 9/11. FINALLY! Where are we going?

Filed under: Outing — Tyler @ 11:30 pm

Just saw Michael Moore’s new film Fahrenheit 9/11. I’ll start by saying that about 90% of the information in the film I had heard before, but Moore stitches the information together in such an elegant and convincing fashion that you can’t help but think that he might be right. The film does have Moore’s spin, all of the opinions are his, this is obvious. His facts are straight (and very closely checked by independent sources) and conclusions logical. Many will have issue with what he has to say, but I hope in the process they realize that they might have been duped by the Bush administration.

Truth be told I was pissed off after leaving the theater. Not at the movie, not at Mr. Moore, and not really complexity pissed even at Dubba (aka President George W. Bush). I was pissed at a whole group of people, spent the 20 minutes walk home from the Coolidge bitching to myself. Bush is the figurehead and I think there is a strange mixture of blood and oil on his hands, but he is not the only one responsible. I was pissed at his whole family and administration, pissed at the boulder heads who elected him, pissed at America for what it seems we have become. I think this is what Moore was shooting for.

I have a new cousin

Filed under: Fun little bit — Tyler @ 5:57 pm

My new cousin, Sydney Alexandra Fowler, is a month old already. In his unusual form my cousin-in-law Dan shows off his new daughter. They really put them to work early in the country.

Thank you unknown dental student

Filed under: Fun little bit — Tyler @ 3:39 pm

I was waiting the elevator from the 7th to the 1st floor early this afternoon and I heard what sounded like a large group of excited children. So I catch the elevator down (I’m alone) and I stop on the second floor. The doors open to about 10–12 young kids (maybe 1st or 2nd graders) decked out in yellow disposable aprons and face masks. There is a practical dental training facility on the 2nd floor of my building, a source of constant irritation when the 1st and 2nd year students have class. A twenty something dental student held them back from entering the elevator saying, “I don’t think you want all of use in there.” Very considerate of her. I think I just had a look of shock on my face as I don’t remember replying to her comment. We usually don’t get that many children running around our building.

Snappy Dance Theater

Filed under: Outing — Tyler @ 11:06 am

Last night I caught a wonderful performance by Snappy Dance Theater. The group was formed in 1997 and in 2002 their Executive Director launched a very aggressive promotion campaign with the goal of making the group the first arts group in Boston to support all of its performers on a full time basis. I saw them at the Copley Theater in 2002 and was amazed. Crisp, smart, funny, and entertaining were some descriptors that came to mind. Last nights performance was not disappointing. The group seems to make an effort to make dance accessible to a wide audience. They were successful judging by the capacity crowd at the Majestic Theater. It’s wonderful to see such gracious support for local art initiatives. Some of the works were from past years, new though was the new commission “The Temperamental Wobble”, inspired by the works of Edward Gorey.

Back from ASMS

Filed under: Outing — Tyler @ 9:57 am

Yesterday was my first full day back in Boston. Time to get back to the bench and continue the hopefully short journey to the end of my PhD. Ahh, the long road. I quickly posted some photos from the conference. I might comment some more on things as time avails itself.
