Why in the doorway?

Filed under: Irritating Things — Tyler @ 10:14 am

I’ve needed to complain about this for awhile. There are certain etiquettes that seem to be lost on my fellow T riders. Why do you have to stand in the doorways when there is plenty of room in the rest of the car? These are not people who are getting off at the next stop. These are not people who are disabled and would a difficult time wading their way through crowds. No, these are healthy adults just standing in doorways. This is especially bad on the Green Line. Today when I got off there were two guys on one of the middle stairwells, just standing there leaning back and reading their newspapers, leaving only enough room for one person to get through at a time. I purposefully brushed against both of their papers.

One more thing, why don’t people wait for other passengers to leave the car before they board. The train will not leave until all have boarded. And if you have space to spread out, why cram in front of the doorway so that those exiting have no place to go?

A solution to all this is common sense, something I know is lacking in many simply because they don’t take the time to realize it.

Okay, I’m done.

Doors

Filed under: Irritating Things — Tyler @ 9:32 am

I get really annoyed with people who talk in doorways — especially when I am walking behind them and then they suddenly stop to chat with someone and then stay in the doorway — rather than move off to the side to let other people through.

I don’t understand the T

Filed under: Rant — Tyler @ 8:25 pm

A T rant. Today on the trolly we stopped at the last above ground station on the line I usually take for a few minutes. Once we get to next station (underground) we are told that it is the last stop for the train. Takes about 5 minutes for the next train to come. This is all taking place around 9 am, the tail end of rush hour.

A few weeks ago, at the same stop, a train was disabled in front of us. We sit for about 20 minutes while the Supervisors are figuring out what to do. The solution? Use our train to push the other one down into the next station where they have a spur. This is at rush hour, around 8:30 am. Normally this is just a major inconvenience, to have 4 packed cars worth of people wait on the platform for the next train. Only problem is this is during the nice sub 20s F temperatures were were having here in Boston. It must have been about 10 F. Very bad. I don’t understand the T.

Why to two cars always pass me on the other track before mine comes? I don’t understand.

Dentist

Filed under: Fun little bit — Tyler @ 1:12 pm

I get my teeth done at the Goldman School of Dental Science at Boston University. It’s usually amusing to be in a room where about 5 other people are having procedures done. Today the woman in the bay next to me was having a “deep cleaning”, below the gun line. She asked the student doing the work if she would have any pain (the procedure is usually done with Novocain administered). The students was foreign, but spoke good English, “This is dentistry not an amusement park, of course there will be pain.” It was the matter of fact tone that I found amusing.

Drunk Guys and Cookies?

Filed under: Fun little bit — Tyler @ 11:02 pm

Long day today. Missed a ride home with a friend because I had to finish up with some reactions. I took my usual route, forgetting for a second that the Parade celebrating the Patriots winning the Superbowl was this afternoon.

There were some very enthusiastic fans on the T, three guys in their early 20s. Drunk off their asses. This is all normal. Do drunk guys usually hand out chocolate chip cookies? Fortunately they were just pestering the woman on the car and harassing each other. Another time I’m glad I was born a male. Ah yes, and about 4 stop before the end of the line they realized that they were on the wrong train. Too many cookies I guess.
